Summer fun - Camping!
Days 'till the Summer Solstice: 9
Is it Friday already???
Only a few hours left to get ready for my Girl Scout camping trip! I'm taking 5 high school girls to a huge Girl Scout/Boy Scout camping weekend - a sea of tents and pop-up canopies in a large grassy field. There'll be outdoorsy competitions, campfire skits, an outdoor movie, an outdoor dance - the whole nine yards. Except sleep. Don't think there will be too much of that going on!
Camping is another fun summer activity I enjoy. Group camping is fun, but I do prefer the less hectic pace of family camping. My husband and I had tons of fun introducing the kids to camping when they were little. The dh prefers primitive camping, so no cabins, RVs, trailers or even electrical hook ups for us! Strictly tent-and-outhouse/bathhouse camping.
There was usually some fishing involved, which I'm not much good at, so that meant a lawn chair and a romance novel for me while the troops were casting out their lines :-) As the kids got older, we started reading books out loud around the campfire at night - a couple years ago we took turns reading an Agatha Christie mystery, and totally hooked the kids into later reading every AC novel they could get their hands on!
Now my kids are in that teenage stage where family camping doesn't hold much appeal - if they're going to forgo Facebook for an entire weekend (ie, all eternity) and go camping, they'd rather do it with friends. But I can still look at my family camping pictures and remember the good times! Above pic: my kids back when they were small enough to pick up and swing around. Below: look closely! - a fawn unexpectedly visited our campsite one spring.

Coming up in the final week of the Countdown to Summer ... more summer recipes!

Parmesian Zucchini Bake...
and more :-)
