Miniature Golf!

Days 'till the Summer Solstice: 21

Today's summer love: Mini-golf!

I am a pretty mean mini-golf player. Just ask my kids. Even as teenagers, they still have a hard time beating me. This is because I must have played about a bazillion holes of mini golf in the summer when I was a kid.

This mini-skill does not, alas, translate to a great "big" golf game. Before I had kids, I tried to learn real golf, but could never master the art of the big golf tee-off. All I could manage were worm-burners and hard slices and hooks.

But who needs big golf, anyway? Big golf courses do not have windmills, pirates, sunken ships, mermaids, and gorillas. And it's a lot harder to get a hole-in-one.

Beware: Mini-golfing with small children can be hazardous!

My youngest son didn't quite know his own strength. When he was about 3 or 4, he teed off a bit too hard at mini-golf and smacked a lady at the next hole over right on the ankle. Ouch!

That was definitely one of my more embarrassing moments as a mother. I'm planning to get the kid back in a few years by showing his naked baby pictures to his first girlfriend. :-)

BTW, these pics are from Congo Falls mini-golf on the Ocean City, NJ boardwalk, one of my favorite summer mini-golf places!

Don't forget - Last day to comment on any post from May 24th to 31st to enter this week's contest for the following prizes:
  • Druids of Avalon series three book set: Celtic Fire, The Grail King, Deep Magic by Joy Nash
  • Lucy the Elephant tee-shirt, direct from Margate, New Jersey!
  • Angie Fox two book set: The Accidental Demonslayer and The Dangerous Book for Demonslayers
  • Angie Fox "Kiss My Asphalt" tee-shirt (Angie's excerpt of her latest "The Dangerous Book For Demonslayers" will appear on Friday May 29th)
Four winners will be chosen at random and posted tomorrow Monday June 1.

See ya tomorrow!

We loved to take our 4 kids mini golfing! Such fun and pretty cheap! The courses can be very elaborate or run down! We ALWAYS had a wonderful time!!

Hello Joy,

I love playing miniature golf. We just haven't done it in years. We have moved and I don't even know if there is a course around here. I'll have to do some research. LOL Have a great day.

I have never played mini golf, but my mother and my older daughter love it (though they've yet to play together!). I don't see the fun in it, but I'm not very coordinated athletically, either.

Good morning.
Never played mini-golf as a kid. Was it even around way back then? Played a few times when our children were little. Played this past January at a plain course while on vacation with my husband, sister and her husband. Had a ball. Was consistently inconsistent. Either got the hole in par and or it took ten shots. Will have to find a fancy course and take our grandsons this summer. Maybe then I won't come in last. Fat chance!
Hope everyone has a great week.

I've never played golf or miniature golf. Not sure where to find a place to play miniature golf around here. It might be fun to try out.

I only played miniature golf once in my life and I didn't do to good with it. I can see where it would be a lot of fun. One time when I was a kid my sister and I were playing with golf club is the yard smacking a ball around and I hit her if the foot with the golf club and broke her foot. Thats about it for my golfing experence.

I've never been a big fan of mini-golf. Putting a ball and a stick together just doesn't produce in me an urge to tap said ball with said stick. I much prefer baseball/softball. :D

I've played mini golf with my kids when they were younger; it was for fun and laughter for us, but I wasn't any good at it, so haven't done it since then.

I have never played miniature golf. I have played *big* golf about a half dozen times and just couldn't get into it. My in-laws are huge *big* golf groupies and they got my older child lessons. Me- I hit the ball into the next group of people and nearly hit a guy. I swear I yelled fore enough to go hoarse.

I haven't played mini golf either. I've only tried golf once at a small golf course during high school. I have no appreciation for the sport of golf.

My father is a huge golfer and tried teaching me, to no avail. Miniature golf's my game, lol. It's fun to play in the summer with the kids, even away on family beach vacations.

Your comments certainly brought back a lot of memories for me. I love to play mini-golf. Don't get to often enough. We don't have a place in town so we have to travel to the nearest one about 30 miles. Some of my favorite memories with my kids are our trips to play, usually in the summer.

I love miniature golf... my question is, how good are you? Personally, I suck, but I have so much fun that I love to play.

Hello, Flip,

That is really kind of you to say so. Thank you.

As for miniature golf, I've played and had fun with it, but the putters never seem to be the ... whoops, there I go, blaming the tool in my hand.

I did learn golf for my sporting activity for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award. The sports professional liked to call me "Thumper".

Make what you like of that!
